Hi everyone hope your all well, this is my first post back after moving house, now there will be post regarding the move coming soon but today I will be writing about the different things I have been doing to keep fit whilst ive been busy moving house and will be carried on doing through out my hectic lifestyle. So I discovered this wonderful fitness and cardio app on my phone called Aaptiv, this handy app allows you to find different workouts with personal trainers on each class and then lets you go back to the workouts that you have previously done, you can also favourite your best workouts so you can go back to them whenever you want and with over 100, 10 minutes workouts it is great whilst on the move, whether your travelling the world or in my case moving house, whilst I was moving the weather really heated up and the sun was out, which I love for workouts since you feel like you are soaking up some of vitamin D from the sun and I always just feel more productive and refreshed when the sun is out. Now the Aaptiv app really made hot weather workouts so much more easier, my personal favourite is the yoga workout called Good morning yoga wake up, this really helped get my body ready for the day ahead especially if I had a long day ahead of me plus it only take 10 minutes so it is easy to fit in to a busy schedule. As well as the Yoga I also enjoy a power walk in the summer weather my favourite on the app is the summer Fun + Sand this class comes with a great built-in workout playlist which all together lasts for 28 minutes. Now even though the classes on the app come with a playlist sometimes you just want to listen to your own style of music to get you in the right mindset to get moving, so here is my top 5 workout songs for summer Playlist.
Now I do love a good outdoor workout so you need to make sure you have all of the essentials with you and some of mine are a good water bottle that can hold plenty of water to keep you hydrated in this hot weather, another essential of mine would be an on arm phone holder strap to keep your playlist and trainer on aaptiv going through out your workout so you don’t have the problem of dropping your phone and interrupting your workout. I also like to take with me a compact first aid kit since I am quite the accident prone this is always a good idea weather you get a blister or something worse you will always be prepared.
So this was what I’ve been doing to keep fit during the summer and will carry on to do for the rest of the year since Aaptiv have workouts for outdoors and indoors and it is so easy to navigate the app that I will not have a problem sticking to this program. Good afternoon everyone today I will be posting about the top ten snacks that I eat when I feel a bit peckish and I’m trying to be healthier, now I am and always been a snacker never much into massive meals but I do love a good snack. So I thought I would share these with you.

Hi, as some of you may know if you had read my ‘about me’page I have been working as a healthcare assistant for about 2 1/2 years now and has worked in a number of different environments including community residential care, Nursing home and now I am working in a residential, physiotherapy rehabilitation and dementia specialist care home. So I thought I would do a post on some of the essentials that you would need and that I use as a healthcare assistant.
Alcohol handrub– This one is pretty self explanatory due to the hygiene factor of the profession, however this one is mainly for people working in the community since in a care or nursing home they should have them there scattered about where as you don’t if it’s other people’s homes, so this is a must. You can get ones that clip on to your uniform so you never lose it.
Nurses Fob watch– Another useful one because time is a big part of the profession, whether it’s filling out documents, medication time needs or cooking times you will always need to be checking the time and you can’t keep on looking for a clock or looking at your phone, so a fob watch allows you to always have the time on you just connected to you uniform at easy reach.
Lots and lots of black ink pens- Now this one is again pretty self explanatory but you will need to write something in this job through out the day somewhen so I tend to try and keep atleast 3 or even 4 pens on me, this is mainly because I’ve either lost them or the little pen fairy comes and takes them. So I now advise people to keep a lot of pens on them in the profession.
Hair ties– Now this one is for the woman or men with longer hair, but this is a must for me I never understand why people wear there hair down in this job, because it is a hard job and they need to keep care and nursing homes and the homes of the clients really warm since the elderly find the cold really easily, so you most probably will sweat somewhen in the day and when I have my hair down it just makes it worse so I tend to always put my hair up.
Comfortable shoes- Now this one is a must, since I work 12 hour shifts my feet used to be in agony by lunch time but a month or so ago I brought some sketchers memory foam gel trainers specially for work and they are the best purchase I’ve ever made, my feet don’t ache half as much as they did before. I got mine on amazon and I would recommend this to anyone in this profession because there is a lot of walking.
Deodorant– This one is pretty self explanatory since you might be sweating quite a lot I recommend a powerful anti perspirant.
Pain killers– Because the profession we are in can be very heavy and physical, I suggest just carrying with you some pain killers since you could injure yourself or get aches and pains, so to tackle the issue of pain it’s always essential to have some form of pain relief close at hand just in case.
Water– This one is a must due to the fact that if you perspire you need to replenish those lost fluids, so many times I’ve seen people get dehydrated through not drinking enough at work, so I carry around a bottle of water around with me so I can keep up my fluids, I also feel like it gives me more energy.
High in protein foods- Speaking of energy when your working a long shift you need to keep your energy levels quite high and you can do this by eating foods which are high in protein.
Hand cream or barrier cream and lip balm- Now I find I get very dry chapped hands and lips in this profession it’s due to the central heating, possible dehydration, wetting of hands and not drying them properly and also the wearing of the gloves. So I like to combat this by always carrying a small tube of hand cream/ barrier cream and a tube of lip balm, in my pocket so I can apply when ever I need them. I like to use a Nivea lip balm and I’ve been using E45 barrier cream, you can find both at a local pharmacy or drugstore, such as Boots or Superdrug in the UK.

Hello hope your all well, today I will be writing about some of my favourite tea flavours. Now I love the regular white tea or English breakfast, but recently I’ve been trying to cut out soda, so I’ve been replacing it with different flavours of tea mainly green tea. So here is a few of my favourites. Twinings mango tango green tea- This one has notes of mango, green tea and a slight taste of fiery ginger, which gives it a slight kick to wake you up, it also makes It one of my absolute favourites.
Twinings lemon and honey green tea- This one is a classic one for the green tea, a great taste aswell as this it’s amazing if you have a cold or flu.
Twinings steamed green tea soft mint- A soft gentle note of mint in this one its not too over powering but still holds a slight kick, this ones great if you like peppermint tea but don’t want it to strong.
Twinings steamed green tea lemon- This is quite similar to the lemon and honey one but without the sweetness of the honey, it’s really nice refreshing taste wakes you up.
Twinings steamed pure green tea- This is plain and simple green tea which is quite nice and refreshing just on its own without all the other flavours.
Whittards of Chelsea cranberry and raspberry instant tea- This one is a powdered tea which is mainly for iced tea you make this up with hot water add some cold water and pour over a jug of ice cubes. And the flavour is fruity and just excellent a perfect summer tea.

Hello everyone hope your all well, today I will be posting about one of my favourite salad recipes my healthy rainbow salad. Now you can mix and match the ingredients to what you like it’s quite a flexible salad I also like to add some bell peppers in it so you can change it up to what you like.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and let me know if you try it out. This recipe serves about 3 people and can last for about 3 days in the fridge, it is also quite filling because of the cous cous. Hello, everyone today I will be writing about my experience with staying in hospital for a spinal injury and having a MRI scan. So it all started in February of this year, when I would get severe back pain whilst working at the nursing home, now I had never had problems with my back before so I knew something wasn’t right, so I went to see my GP which I had to see a different doctor, which he just told me it was normal for someone in my profession and said I was too young to have a injury on my back, so he gave me a website to look at to help with exercises. So I done those exercises and kept on taking pain killers, but it wasn’t working and was just getting worse as time went on so I decided to go back to see the doctor but had a different one again which he then told me that he thought I might of partially slipped a disc in my back and he prescribed me some strong painkillers called Tramadol, and some anti inflammatory tablets called Naproxen. These did work quite well for a couple of months, until I done something at work one day and I was in such bad pain with my back which went all the way up my spine to my neck and then down my legs and it would feel like pins and needles in my bottom area and I was struggling to walk let alone work. And I went back to the doctor which I got ANOTHER different doctor which he said their was not much he could do so he prescribed a stronger dose of painkillers and referred me to the physiotherapist.At this point I was in such pain with my back that I was taking Tramadol, Paracetemol and the anti inflammatory drugs all at a time which really knocks you out and can make you feel very drowsy, and even then the pain was still there. So a month or so past and I finally got to see the physio, which was very concerned and had to phone up the doctors to ask them to see me which she got me a emergency appointment with yet another different doctor, and once I got to the appointment the doctor check me over and my reflexes and said that she was very concerned about my nerves in my back and that area. And so she phoned up Southampton general hospital to see if I could have a emergency MRI scan, which I was lucky enough to be able to go in for one. At first we got told the wrong ward, so after a hunt through the hospital in a wheelchair we finally found the right ward in the minor injury spinal ward and I got a bed ( wasn’t my plan to stay in though) now after several tests, scans and questions ( including a scan with the really cold gel on my stomach) we had to wait for me to have a MRI scan which if you did not know is this really big magnetic cylinder scanner which you have to lie in it normally take from 30-90 minutes to do a scan depending on what part of the body is being scanned. The wait was so long like 2-3 hours. I finally got took down by the healthcare assistants (which it was really weird since that was my job, having someone do the stuff for me that I do for others, well most things anyway) when you go into the area where the scanners are your not allowed anything metal on you, so your bra, piercings or anything metal needs to come off, since the scanner uses a very strong magnetic field to work so if you have any metal on it will just rip off and could break the machine. Now when you go in the room you need to lie down flat on this board and they give you headphones or ear plugs and let you choose the radio station (I chose Capital FM) this is because the machine makes a very loud banging sound, which you can still hear but not as bad, now they make you comfortable in the machine and then slide you in to the long tight tube which can be very close and make you feel clostrophobic even though there is a constant cool air blowing through out the tube, but they give you a panic button to press if there is anything wrong, now I’ve had 2 MRI scans now but the one at the general was my first one so I was very worried and nervous so I just went to my happy place which for some unknown reason inside the scanner it smelt like the skyline and Butlins Bognor Regis so I went to there,closed my eyes and thought of my holidays there with my fiancé and family which really helped a lot, I mean near the end I started to get a bit clostrophobic and feel a bit sick but I just took deep breaths in the nose and out the mouth and I was fine. Now the scan lasts about 30 minutes and you can not move whilst in there otherwise it affects the image. So once it had finished I got brought back up to the ward at which point I was then waiting for the Surgeon to look at my scan which took hours at which point it was getting late at night and when he finally saw it they said they wanted me to see the neurologist in the morning so I had to stay overnight, which I really didn’t want too so my mum and nan left and I finally could have something to eat since they said I couldnt eat anything just Incase I needed surgery, and so I hadn’t ate in 12 hours and when I did get food they got me a tuna sandwich how boring, oh and a nice cup of tea which I very much needed. That night I hardly slept at all I must of got like 30 minutes sleep all night and got woken up at 6 in the morning, now I had more tests done and then had to have my worse fear a blood test now she needed to take 4 10ml vials of blood, which terrified me and then when she was doing the third vial my blood stopped flowing and so she had to try and get it to come again but it wouldn’t so someone came and tried again later on the other arm and got it straight away (thank god) and they gave me some super good looking stockings and socks to prevent blood clots in the leg . Now my mum came in to see me and once he finished work my fiancé also came to visit me which made me feel much better.Now I was just waiting for the neurologist to check me over and the time was ticking and I was getting very distressed and fed up and I suffer with anxiety quite badly and the stress triggered a sort of panic attack where I couldn’t stop crying and Conor, my mum and the nurse all had trouble calming me down, now barring in mind that I had not slept the night before, I was in a unknown environment and missed my family so I was very emotional and was thinking I was going to have to stay in another night. But then the neurologist finally came and done his tests and said that he wanted a fully spinal MRI scan but said I could have it as a outpatient and that I could be discharged, which I was so pleased about, so I got all of my stuff together, and then one on the night doctors came in and said I can’t be discharged since the day staff didn’t do the paper work which set off a major panic attack since I thought I was going home to be with my family I started crying and hyperventilating but one of the nurses had a word and they finally filled out my discharge papers and I was free to leave and was back in my own bed with my family. I went for my second MRI scan about 1 month ago at royal south Hants hospital and it took about 45-60 minutes and I was the first ones for that day,it wasn’t as bad since I knew what to expect but they never had headphones so I had to have ear plugs but I just went to my happy place again and it was over before I knew it. I still haven’t got any results they said they will send them to my doctor when they have them in a couple of weeks but still nothing, I will keep you all updated about it.
I hope you enjoyed hearing about my experience In hospital and having a MRI scan, it was a very tiring and stressful experience but all of the nurses, healthcare assistants and most of the doctors was kind and helpful and I would just like to thank all of the staff for looking after me whilst in there.
Recently I’ve been a bit under the weather and just been spending the majority of my time staying in bed and resting so today I will be sharing all of my essentials for a sick day.
Plenty of fluids- Now when I’m ill my appatite gets thrown right off, I don’t feel like eating anything at all not even my favourite foods. But I do however get extremely thirsty all the time and nothing seems to quench my thirst, so plenty of fluids is essential to me getting better. When I’m especially sick I love a nice ice cold glass of some fruit squash my favourite is blackcurrent Ribena.
My bed and tons of blankets- When I get ill I normally feel the cold so much that I start shivering so blankets is a must. Also when I’m ill I don’t feel like doing anything at all including getting out of bed.
Access to You tube- This one is something I need to have since It does get quite boring just being in bed all day , however you really do want to keep the videos quite relaxing, my favourites to watch is Zoella, The Pointless Blog, KEEMi, Good mythical Morning, Shane Dawson and more.
Netflix- This is like you tube with the fact that it can get boring doing nothing all day so I normally watch a film on there, or even a few episodes of a tv show my favourite at the moment is Gotham whilst I’m waiting for walking dead to start again.
Medication- Now this is one thsat you need plenty of when sick, depending on what is wrong depends on what medication you need, now I’m no doctor so I cant give you the best medication advice, but what I take when I’m feeling ill is 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen every 4 hours, and it normally clears everything up in a couple of days, I also take a tonic for after I’m sick to get me back to my normal self, I normally get the metatone tonic which they sell in Boots or Superdrug stores.
Warming comfort foods- This is a must since even though you may not feel like eating anything you need to have something to keep your energy levels up so you can start getting better so I like too have things that are log and easy to eat, such as soups, noodles, jelly, ice cream, beans on toast etc. My favourite soups are spicy tomato, oxtail, chicken noodle and my own chunky spicy leek and potato soup, which the recipe is in a post but I have linked the post.
Hot bath- This one always makes me feel at least a little bit better I like a nice Hot bath with steam to clear everything, I like to use a relaxing bath bomb such as the Ickle baby bot bath bomb from lush, I will also add some bubbles by using either the relaxing bubble bath from Radox or the Milky bath bubble bar from lush. I will sometimes add some candles to the side of the bath and listen to some relaxing music from a playlist on Spotify.
Soft tissues- This is pretty self explanatory since if you are having a runny nose as a symptom of your illness then you will pretty much need some tissues but I like to get the Kleenex brand especially the ultra soft ones since there is nothing worse than a sore nose.
Phone- I think is one of the main ones since you can do so much on it, from playing games, to searching the Internet, watching YouTube or Netflix, listening to music and going on social media this is the ultimate thing you need for entertainment, but I do suggest not looking up your symptoms as you may freak out and think that you are dying.
